Mur de Péguère 1375m (west)

Western climb from Massat

Mur de Péguère is one of the short but brutal small climbs of the Pyrenees that is the highlight of the Tour de France each time it is featured, and for good reasons. Although it only averages over 7% over its 10 km length, the final 3.6 km yield an average gradient of nearly 12% with small pitches over 16% and full kilometer average over 14%.

Over the course of extreme mountain itineraries such as those making the Ultra Bike Pursuit events, the repetition of big mountains will wear cyclists down, but sometimes, the short and low elevation climbs such as Mur de Péguère may tax the legs even more than a major mountain high altitude mountain climb.
