Pailhères 2001m (west)

Western climb from Ax-les-Thermes

Col de Pailhères more often named Port de Pailhères is the giant climb of the French Oriental Pyrenees and is often a favorite of the Tour de France. The western slope which starts in a forest following a river opens up to a grand view toward the top. It couldn’t contrast more with its opposite side famous for its numerous and very tight switchbacks. Something to be aware of when cyclist descend on the other side where there is sometimes not much space for cyclists to cross with a vehicle.
